DETROIT — Hundreds of southern and western Michigan school districts are closed for the day amid a winter storm.

Monday's closings included most districts in the Detroit area, including the Detroit Public Schools. Closings also were reported in the Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor and Muskegon areas, among others.

The University of Michigan, UM-Flint, UM-Dearborn, Mott Community College, Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College called off Monday classes. Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University, Oakland University, Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College also were closed.

Michigan State University modified operations and suspended classes until noon Monday for students at its East Lansing campus.
