SAN FERNANDO, California — A Los Angeles-area man who beat to death his newborn daughter has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.
City News Service says 30-year-old Matthew Warner of Santa Clarita was sentenced Tuesday.
Los Angeles County prosecutors say Warner killed his 19-day-old daughter in January while the mother was at work, then hid the child's body. The parents later reported her missing to sheriff's deputies, triggering an air and ground search.
The next morning, Warner led investigators to a pickup truck parked not far from the condominium where he and the mother lived. The girl's body was found in the cab.
Last month, Warner pleaded no contest to first-degree murder.
