PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Rhode Island's unemployment rate for August remains the third highest rate in the country.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the jobless rates for all 50 states on Friday. Georgia's rate of 8.1 percent is the worst, followed by Mississippi's, which is 7.9 percent.
Rhode Island was next with a rate of 7.7 percent. The state Department of Labor and Training released the figure Thursday. The number was unchanged from the July rate.
Rhode Island's unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since July 2008. It has fallen nearly 2 percentage points in the past year.
The U.S. rate for August was 6.1 percent.
