Doctor who worked at central Indiana clinics sentenced for overprescribing pain medications

KOKOMO, Indiana — A doctor who worked at central Indiana clinics has been sentenced to home detention and probation for what prosecutors said was the overprescribing of pain medications.

A Howard County judge sentenced 67-year-old William Terpstra to 15 years on probation, including 18 months of in-home detention. The Kokomo Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1WitG7P ) Terpstra pleaded guilty to charges of dealing in a narcotic drug and a controlled substance, and he has a lifetime suspension of his medical license.

Terpstra was among staffers of the Wagoner Medical Centers in Burlington and Kokomo arrested in 2013. Clinic owner Don Wagoner, two physician assistants and a nurse have pleaded guilty to charges in the case.

State officials said at least a dozen clinic patients died from drug-related complications. No staffers were charged with causing the deaths.
