FLAGSTAFF, Arizona — Federal authorities say a sex offender wanted in California has been arrested in northwestern Arizona.

U.S. Marshals Service officials say 34-year-old Joseph Townsend was located and arrested Wednesday at a family residence in Bullhead City, Arizona.

They say Townsend has been booked into the Mohave County Jail and is being held pending extradition to Los Angeles County.

It was unclear Thursday if he has a lawyer.

Authorities say Townsend was wanted for a parole violation after being in possession of child pornography.

They say he allegedly cut off his GPS monitor and left California sometime late last week to avoid prosecution.

Authorities say Townsend previously was convicted of rape along with lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14.
