FORT WAYNE, Indiana — A Gary man who pleaded guilty in the fatal shooting of a Fort Wayne tobacco store owner has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Jamel C. Coleman was sentenced Friday in the April 2014 killing of 44-year-old Antonio Lopez Nino.
The 23-year-old Coleman pleaded guilty in January to murder and robbery charges in Nino's death. Court documents say Coleman brought a gun to The Smoke House Tobacco Outlet and that he told detectives he intended to rob Nino of any cash he had on him.
Court documents state that Nino had his own handgun and when he tried to resist the robbery, Coleman bound him and shot him.
Tips from the public, including Coleman's own family, led to his arrest.
