Hughes set a major league record for strikeout-to-walk ratio and posted a 3.52 ERA in 32 starts, his first season with the Twins. The awards voted on by the Twin Cities chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America were announced Thursday.
Other winners include Brian Duensing (community service), Danny Santana (outstanding rookie), Eduardo Escobar (most improved), Ron Gardenhire (media cooperation), Brian Dozier (defensive player), catcher Kurt Suzuki (leadership) and Pat Neshek (Upper Midwest player).
The winners will be honored Jan. 22 at Target Field at the annual Diamond Awards ceremony, to benefit research, education and care for brain, nerve and muscle disorders at the University of Minnesota.
