PASADENA, California — The roses are ready for Madison Triplett.

The Tournament of Roses named the 17-year-old from a Pasadena high school to be queen of next year's Rose Parade.

The Pasadena Star-News ( ) reports that Triplett was chosen as the 97th Tournament of Roses queen Tuesday night outside the Pasadena Convention Center from among seven princess-finalists culled from a pool of about 700 contestants who tried out in September.

Triplett is a student at Marshall Fundamental High School in Pasadena.

She and her court will preside at the 126th parade on New Year's Day and the 101st Rose Bowl game that follows.
