Onslow County woman to serve up to 25 years after pleading guilty in 2013 stabbing death

JACKSONVILLE, North Carolina — An Onslow County woman will serve up to 25 years after pleading guilty to a 2013 stabbing death.

Local media outlets report that 21-year-old Bekka Shellhammer pleaded guilty in Onslow County Court on Thursday to second-degree murder in the slaying of Christopher William Stewart in North Topsail Beach.

She was sentenced to a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 25 years.

Authorities say both Stewart and Shellhammer's husband, 31-year-old Robert Clinton Shellhammer IV were found stabbed to death on the beach.

Prosecutors say the Shellhammers planned to lure Stewart to the beach and kill him, but that Stewart resisted and Shellhammer's husband was also killed.

Authorities say the plan was to kill Stewart to keep him from testifying that he had purchased drugs from Shellhammer's husband.
