TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Authorities say a burglary suspect is dead after being shot by a Tallahassee police officer investigating the case.

Jeremy Lett was shot Tuesday night by officer David Stith and died overnight at a hospital.

The department said Stith responded to a call about a burglary and confronted 28-year-old Lett, who matched the description of the suspect.

An altercation ensued, and Stith fired his weapon.

Stith has been placed on leave while the department investigates the death. A grand jury will determine whether he followed department protocol.
