Trial for Kaplan man accused in 2014 hit-and-run crash that killed Youngsville bicyclist postponed until June 20

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — Trial for a 43-year-old Kaplan man accused in a 2014 hit-and-run crash near Milton that killed a Youngsville bicyclist has been postponed until June 20.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1nlrvUY) Fitzpatrick Doucette was scheduled to stand trial Tuesday in the death of 30-year-old Lon Lomas, who drowned in a water-filled ditch after a car crashed into him and his bicycle on the morning of July 7, 2014.

First Assistant District Attorney Danny Landry says Doucette's trial date was continued so investigators could recreate the crash scene.

In the bill of information charging Doucette with counts of negligent homicide and hit-and-run with death.
