Tennessee man indicted on charges of pointing gun at Campbell County deputy

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — An East Tennessee man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder of a Campbell County deputy.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said a Campbell County grand jury indicted 41-year-old Donnie Ledford of LaFollette on Wednesday and also charged him with aggravated assault and firearms charges.

The TBI says deputies responded to a disturbance on July 26 and that Ledford pointed a revolver at a deputy before fleeing. Later that day, the TBI says a deputy saw Ledford and asked for his identification, at which point Ledford pointed a gun at the deputy.

The deputy fired two shots at Ledford, and Ledford was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The TBI says Ledford was being held on $500,000 bond.
