KALAMZOO, Michigan — Western Michigan University political science professor Paul Clements says he plans to run again for Congress in 2016.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1DJsqph ) the Democrat said in an email to supporters Tuesday he'll seek the seat in Michigan's 6th district.
Clements lost his bid last year after southwestern Michigan voters re-elected Republican U.S. Rep. Fred Upton to a 15th term. Clements says: "There are really big challenges that the country faces and our congressman, I'm afraid, is still part of the problem."
Upton's campaign staff earlier announced he'll seek re-election.
Upton's campaign director Liz Garey says the congressman "is full speed ahead and looks forward to continuing his bipartisan efforts to create local jobs, spur economic growth and working to help all residents of southwest Michigan live longer, better lives."
