MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota's latest basketball recruiting class has a local feature — Jarvis Johnson.

The DeLaSalle High School star signed his national letter of intent Wednesday to join the Gophers for the 2015-16 season. The 6-foot-1 Johnson is the first Minnesota player signed by coach Richard Pitino straight out of high school. He helped lead the Islanders to the last Class 3A state championship.

Three of the four players in the class are guards. Six-foot Kevin Dorsey of Port Tobacco, Maryland, and 6-foot-4 Dupree McBrayer of Jamaica, New York, are the other guards.

The 6-foot-10, Nigerian-born Jonathan Nwankwo of Mount Vernon, New York, is the other member of the class.
