AUBURN, Maine — A Lewiston man convicted of killing another man in Greene and disposing of his body in Monmouth is asking for a new trial.

Michael McNaughton was convicted in July of murder in the 2013 stabbing and strangulation death of Romeo Parent.

The Sun Journal (http://bit.ly/1uJkB7S ) reports that McNaughton's lawyer filed an amended motion in Androscoggin County Superior Court this week, adding to claims that prosecutors failed to turn over to the defense information and evidence that would have helped clear McNaughton.

Prosecutors dismissed the defense's claim that the information would have resulted in a different verdict.

Authorities have said that Parent was killed because he told police about a friend's involvement in a burglary.
