RALEIGH, North Carolina — It is bitterly cold across North Carolina.

The National Weather Service reported temperatures early Thursday ranged from 4 below zero in Boone to 23 in Southport, Beaufort and Hatteras.

Wind chill advisories and warnings are in effect for the entire state. A winter weather advisory expired late Thursday morning for the western and central part of North Carolina. But a winter storm watch has been posted for the extreme southwestern mountains for Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. Forecasters say snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible around Murphy.

Schools are closed again in many areas.

Duke Energy reports service has been restored to many people who lost service during the ice storm. The company reported about 4,300 customers without service Thursday morning. The biggest problem was in Alamance County.
