COLUMBUS, Mississippi — The Columbus Municipal School Board will announce the finalists for superintendent on July 1.
While school board president Angela Verdell wouldn't say how many finalist were chosen, Al Johnson with search firm Ray and Associates told The Commercial Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1rDcQAX ) it was "fewer than five."
Eight applicants were interviewed for the position over the course of three days.
Verdell says the finalists will be introduced to the public July 1 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Joe Cook Elementary.
The job comes with a salary in the range of $175,000.
The school district, which serves more than 4,500 children, has been without a permanent superintendent since Martha Liddell was fired by the school board a year ago. The board appointed Edna McGill as interim superintendent following Liddell's exit.
