Company announces historic wooden steamboat to have headquarters and homeport in Missouri

CINCINNATI — The owner of an historic steamboat has announced plans to base the vessel in Missouri, dashing plans for a return to Cincinnati.

The Delta Queen Steamboat Company says the new corporate headquarters and homeport for the iconic riverboat will be in Kimmswick, Missouri, just south of St. Louis.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports (http://cin.ci/1UK8jcN ) the owners hope to have the Delta Queen back in service next year. They plan to take the ship to more than 80 U.S. ports, including Cincinnati.

Ohio lawmakers have introduced federal legislation to allow the steamboat to again carry passengers on overnight river trips.

The National Historic Landmark was owned by a Cincinnati company from 1946 to 1985 and later docked as a floating hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It's now being renovated in Louisiana.
