SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — Sioux Falls officials say the city broke three records for building permits in 2014.
A total of 14,945 building permits were issued during the year, shattering the previous mark of nearly 8,000 in 2013.
Officials say the permits totaled $619.5 million, topping the 2013 record of $588.2 million.
The total number of new housing units also set a record with 2,056 permits, or 17 more than the previous year.
Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether says the figures show that residents and business owners in the state's largest city are confident in the economy.
