GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — A flash flood watch in parts of western Colorado has been cancelled for now, a day after heavy rain flooded homes in De Beque and streets around Mesa County.
The Daily Sentinel (http://bit.ly/UYT07P ) reports that a home was pushed off its foundations and a garage was destroyed in De Beque on Monday. Storms stalled over the Grand Valley, allowing rain to breached ditch banks and flowed through normally dry washes.
Grand Junction set a new rainfall record for the day with 1.2 inches falling at the city's airport, most of it in less than an hour. The previous record for Aug. 4 was just over half of an inch set back in 1897.
