PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer shot and critically injured a man who was trying to pull a gun from his waistband.
A police spokeswoman said the uniformed officer was in a marked police vehicle when he responded to a call about a person with a gun north of the center of the city just before 7 p.m. Friday.
Police said the man had a handgun in his waistband and was ordered several times to show his hands, but he refused to do so and began to pull the weapon.
Police said the officer then fired, hitting the suspect in the chest. He was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in critical condition. Police said a loaded .380 semi-automatic handgun was recovered.
