Crews working to contain small fire burning in southern Utah County's Santaquin Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY — Crews are working to contain a small brush fire burning in Santaquin Canyon in southern Utah County.

U.S. Forest Service spokesman Reid Shelley says the fire in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest was about 250 acres Monday evening and burning about a mile and a half up the canyon.

Shelley says the fire was about a mile away from homes but it was on the other side of a ridge and far enough away that officials don't consider any structures threatened.

He says the blaze was moving away from the homes and further up into the canyon.

Officials believe the blaze is human caused but don't know what specifically sparked it. Shelley says an investigator was on scene Monday.

A road running through the canyon was closed to traffic Monday evening.
