City official: Condition of man shot by police in Edina is improving

EDINA, Minnesota — A man shot by police in Edina is improving.

Jennifer Bennerotte, a spokeswoman for the city of Edina, told the Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1gqyecb ) Sunday that the man was upgraded to serious but stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center. He was reported in critical condition Saturday.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating but would not release any new information Sunday. Spokeswoman Lisa Kiava says more information will be available in the coming days.

The shooting happened just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday inside a condo unit after police were sent to check the welfare of the man who had reportedly had been acting in a threatening manner.

The man allegedly displayed some sort of weapon before he was shot.

No other information on the man has been released.
