HELENA, Montana — Weather forecasters are predicting thunderstorms across much of Montana that could bring large hail and possible flash flooding.

The National Weather Service says the greatest threat of severe weather on Monday will be across southwest and south-central Montana.

The weather service says the storms developing in the afternoon could carry hail the size of golf balls and winds of 60 mph, along with lightning and heavy rain.

The rain could cause flash flooding in some areas, and the weather service says people planning to be in the backcountry or on lakes should be prepared for quickly changing conditions.
