SALT LAKE CITY — A New Mexico man who crashed his car into a Utah judge riding a bicycle is serving a probation sentence after pleading guilty to reckless driving.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1BG5ItA) that 79-year-old David Bertelson of Albuquerque pleaded guilty in late May and is halfway through a six month probation sentence.

Bertelson was driving down the Salt Lake City-area Mill Creek Canyon last October when his car crossed an oncoming traffic lane and the road shoulder, striking 60-year old Anthony Quinn as he bicycled up the canyon.

Quinn was a judge in Utah's 3rd District Court.

Unified Police spokesman Lt. Justin Hoyal says investigators never determined the cause of the crash.

They say alcohol or drugs were not a factor.
