SALT LAKE CITY — A New Mexico driver is serving a probation sentence related to a car crash that killed a bicycling Utah judge.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1BG5ItA) that 79-year-old David Bertelson of Albuquerque pleaded guilty (to reckless driving) in late May and is halfway through a six month probation sentence.
Bertelson was driving down the Salt Lake City-area Mill Creek Canyon last October when his car crossed an oncoming traffic lane and the road shoulder, colliding with 60-year old Anthony Quinn as he bicycled up the canyon.
Quinn was taken to the hospital where he died. He was a judge in Utah's 3rd District Court.
Unified Police spokesman Lt. Justin Hoyal says investigators never determined the cause of the crash.
They say alcohol or drugs were not a factor.
