PRINEVILLE, Oregon — After nine months on paid leave, Prineville Police Chief Eric Bush has been dismissed.

The Bulletin newspaper reported Wednesday ( the city put out a two-sentence press release that didn't explain the action.

City officials haven't said why Bush was under investigation beyond describing it as a "personnel matter" unrelated to the administration of justice.

Bush is a brigadier general in the Oregon Army National Guard. After he was put on leave in September, officials said the investigation was slowed because of difficulties arranging interviews with some witnesses because of their military commitments.

The city said Capt. Michael Boyd would continue as interim chief while a search is conducted.
