PHOENIX — A former Goodyear police detective has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for child molestation.

Jose Jesus Roman Jr. was sentenced Thursday by a Maricopa County Superior Court commissioner.

The 54-year-old Roman was arrested by sheriff's deputies in 2013 and accused of having sex with a girl starting in 2003 when she was 12.

The now-adult woman told police that Roman allegedly molested her and had sex with her at his home in Tonopah and at another home in Glendale from 2003 to 2006.

Roman denied the allegations and took a polygraph examination, but court documents indicate he pleaded guilty to child molestation and attempted child molestation.
