Virginia Gov. McAuliffe heading to Maine for Democrats' summer fundraiser

FREEPORT, Maine — Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is swinging through Maine to help raise money for the state's Democratic party.

McAuliffe is heading the annual Muskie Lobster Bake on Sunday at Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport.

Before being sworn into office in 2014, the Democratic governor served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, co-chairman of President Bill Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign and as chairman of Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential bid.

Emily Cain and Joe Baldacci, the Democrats hoping to defeat Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin in 2016 for the 2nd Congressional District seat, are also expected to attend Sunday's event along with the Democratic leaders in the state House and Senate.
