PRESCOTT, Arizona — Authorities have arrested a man accused of stabbing another man in downtown Prescott.

Police say 52-year-old Michael Meikis suffered multiple stab wounds and facial injuries on Saturday shortly before 1 p.m.

Officers say witnesses to the incident identified 40-year-old Darrek Skurja as a suspect. They also told police that Skurja allegedly dropped the knife he used in a drainage gate.

Authorities say Skurja became aggressive when officers tried to detain him.

As a result, they subdued him with a Taser.

He has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. He is being held in the Yavapai County Detention Center in Camp Verde.

Meikis is listed in serious condition at Flagstaff Medical Center.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact them.
