BERLIN — Four men and one woman have gone on trial in Germany accused of supporting Islamic extremist groups in Syria.

Prosecutors accuse the defendants of sending funds, vehicles and new recruits to Syria to support organizations including the Islamic State group.

The dpa news agency reported Wednesday that the main defendant is a 59-year-old German citizen, identified only as Mirza Tamoor B. due to German privacy rules.

All are accused of "supporting a foreign terrorist organization" and face up to ten years in prison if convicted.
