WAYWAYANDA, New York — A crash on Interstate 84 has claimed the life of a 54-year-old upstate New York man.

State police say Robert Pascoe Jr. of the Town of Greenville slammed into a New York Department of Transportation dump truck around 9 a.m. Thursday while a state crew was removing a deer carcass from the highway's center median.

The accident occurred in the Town of Waywayanda at the Exit 3 interchange. A preliminary investigation indicates the dump truck was stopped partially in the center median and partially in the passing lanes.

Troopers say Pascoe's car hit the rear of the truck, rolled over and came to rest on the roadway's shoulder. Pascoe was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Medical Examiner's office.

The eastbound lanes were closed for four hours.
