PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Democratic Gov.-elect Gina Raimondo spent nearly triple what her Republican rival did in the governor's race, the most expensive in state history.

But campaign finance records filed Tuesday show Republican Cranston Mayor Allan Fung actually raised and spent slightly more than Raimondo did between the Sept. 9 primary and Nov. 4 election after he received $1.1 million in matching public funds.

Raimondo did not receive matching funds and entered the general election lagging Fung in campaign cash.

Raimondo spent nearly $6.4 million during the campaign cycle, which began on Jan. 1, 2011. Fung spent $2.2 million.

The numbers do not include money spent by other groups on the race.

The latest filings also show Raimondo gave her campaign a last-minute personal loan of $50,000, her first of the campaign.
