WILMINGTON, North Carolina — The Coast Guard has rescued two people from a sinking boat about 35 miles off the North Carolina coast.
The Coast Guard said in a statement that personnel in Portsmouth, Virginia, received an alert around 1 p.m. Sunday from an emergency locater beacon registered to a boat based in Ocean Island Beach.
The Coast Guard sent a helicopter from Elizabeth City and a boat from Oak Island.
The helicopter crew arrived about 3:15 p.m. and found two people sitting on the hull of the capsized boat. The helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer and rescue basket and hoisted both survivors to the helicopter. They were taken to the Wilmington Airport and were in good condition. No one was hurt.
Their names have not been released.
