MURFREESBORO, Tennessee — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of an inmate found dead at the Rutherford County jail.

Local media outlets report TBI spokesman Josh Devine says that Jonathan Maxwell died Saturday. Devine says a preliminary investigation shows Maxwell killed himself inside a holding cell shortly after his arrest for an alleged domestic assault against his wife.

Devine says the TBI begin its investigation into Maxwell's death at the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

Devine says an autopsy will be performed.
