FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A 32-year-old Northern California man is accused of stealing a $1,900 gold nugget from an Alaska mine where he was working.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/KP6ja3) reports Shaun Timothy Hull of Pollock Pines, California, is charged with felony theft after a Manley Hot Springs miner reported one of two nuggets discovered Saturday had been stolen.
According to a criminal complaint against Hull filed Monday, Hull's employer fired both workers.
The employer told authorities he asked Hull to turn out his pockets and that a 1.5 ounce nugget was found in a tobacco can. Authorities say Hull also had numerous bottles of gold concentrate in his luggage.
According to the complaint, Hull said he took the gold "because it was cool."
It's unclear if he has an attorney.
