DENMARK, Tennessee — Authorities are investigating after the body of a man was found in southwest Madison County.

Multiple news outlets report the body was found Thursday morning in a field in Denmark. The identity of the person found dead and the cause of death has not been released, but authorities say the body is male. Investigators began arriving at the crime scene about 11 a.m. Authorities do not know how long the body has been there.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Tom Mapes says a violent-crimes unit is involved in the investigation, but said there is currently no danger to the public.

Authorities say the investigation is in a very preliminary stage.
