WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — Police in Winston-Salem have identified a body found on the side of a ravine as that of a Mount Airy man.

Firefighters recovered the body of 30-year-old Devin Ryan Moncus on an embankment near Peters Creek Parkway.

Lt. Steven Tollie said detectives were in the area looking for a missing man in an unrelated case on Tuesday when an officer noticed an odor.

Tollie said an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He said the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition and appeared to have been on the embankment from two to four days.

Authorities had been looking for a man missing since June 9 and who was known to walk in the area of where Moncus' body was discovered.
