Beulah beats Shanley 33-18 for first state title in 26 years


FARGO, North Dakota — Cory Alt scored two touchdowns to help Beulah claim its first state title in 26 years with a 33-18 win over Fargo Shanley in the North Dakota Class AA championship game on Friday.

Alt caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Casey Walcker with a minute left in the first half and broke free for an 80-yard touchdown in the third quarter to put the Miners up 19-11.

Alt finished with 123 yards rushing and caught two passes for 63 yards. Walcker completed 7 of 10 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown. He also caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from running back Mikey Morris, who finished with 71 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Hayden Norton recorded 12.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception for Beulah.

The Deacons were led by Matt Burd with 137 yards and two touchdowns, and Devin Klieman pulled in an interception.
