Homes sold in metro Baton Rouge increased from a year ago, second month in a row

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — For the second month in a row, the number of houses sold in metro Baton Rouge increased from a year ago.

According to figures from the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors' Multiple Listing Service, The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1IjErg8) there were 955 homes sold in July in the nine-parish area. That compares with 872 MLS sales in July 2014.

East Baton Rouge Parish, which makes up the largest share of MLS sales, had the biggest gain in closings. There were 539 homes sold in the parish during July, a 9.8 percent increase over the 491 MLS sales in July 2014.

The median home sales price in the area rose by 4.9 percent in July to $191,000 from $182,000.
