VENTURA, California — A man charged with stabbing his 18-month-old son to death in Ventura has pleaded not guilty to murder and kidnapping.
Adrian Navarrete-Gonzalez entered the pleas Wednesday.
The Ventura County Star reports that a county grand jury indicted the 28-year-old Navarrete-Gonzalez for first-degree murder with a special circumstance of kidnapping. He was also charged with assault on a child causing death and use of a knife.
Prosecutor Ann Spillner says the evidence showed Navarrete Gonzalez stabbed his young son in the car Jan. 2 before going into his house and calling police.
Police found the boy, named Jacob, dead from a single stab wound.
Spillner says the district attorney has not decided whether to seek the death penalty. Prosecutors have not cited a motive in the child's stabbing.
