PHOENIX — A Phoenix man wanted in connection with a murder case 15 years ago is in custody.

Authorities say 38-year-old Ivan Alonzo Samaniego-Valenzuela was arrested by federal Homeland Security Investigations agents in Tucson under an outstanding warrant from 2002.

He was transported to Phoenix on Wednesday and booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Authorities say Samaniego-Valenzuela is accused of fatally shooting Juan Salazar on May 10, 2000 at a Phoenix hotel.

Phoenix police say the two men got into an argument before shots were fired.

Samaniego-Valenzuela is being held on $1 million bail.

He didn't have an attorney at his initial court appearance Thursday.

This story has been corrected to show that the man was arrested by federal Homeland Security Investigations agents, not an Arizona Department of Corrections officer.
