ALBANY, New York — A 42-year-old upstate New York man has been convicted of murdering another man during a burglary.

Oscar Valcarcel was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Caleb Capen last December.

Capen was beaten and strangled at knifepoint inside his Albany apartment. His body was found by police responding to a report of a broken window.

Valcarcel is a repeat felon with prior convictions for robbery, forgery and drug offenses. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole at his sentencing on Oct. 30.
