WILMINGTON, North Carolina — The U.S. Coast Guard says its personnel rescued three people from a sinking boat east of Cape Hatteras.
A news release says watchstanders received a report at 7 a.m. Wednesday that the 60-foot Teal was taking on water with three people aboard three miles east of Cape Hatteras.
A Coast Guard 47-foot lifeboat crew launched from the Oregon Inlet station and arrived with Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket 20 minutes after the report. Both crews deployed two pumps to take water out of the Teal, but the rescuers determined the pumps weren't keeping up with the rate of flooding. The pumps were removed from the Teal, and the three boaters were brought aboard the Nantucket.
The three people aboard the Teal were transported to Morehead City.
