GREENSBORO, North Carolina — U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan's campaign says she raised nearly $4.9 million during the third quarter, bringing the total raised by the first-term Democrat seeking re-election in North Carolina to more than $19 million since early last year.
Hagan's team announced Tuesday the amount collected for the three months ending Sept. 30 in advance of an Oct. 15 filing deadline with the Federal Election Commission. The campaign also had nearly $2 million in cash entering the final full month of campaigning.
Republican state House Speaker Thom Tillis hasn't released his third-quarter numbers but trailed Hagan entering the summer. Outside groups backing Tillis have helped minimize the cash disadvantage. The Center for Responsible Politics says the two candidates and the groups have spent more than $53 million combined.
