ROCK SPRINGS, Wyoming — Rock Springs Sweetwater County Airport will see fewer flights and higher subsidy costs in coming months.

Sweetwater County commissioners voted 4-1 this week to cut one of the two daily flights to Salt Lake City after Labor Day and maintain the two daily flights to Denver through June 2015.

Commissioners say the county and cities will have to pay more to subsidize flights in part because SkyWest is phasing in more expensive jet service.

They say impact on ticket prices is unknown right now.

However, the air service subsidy paid by the county, Rock Springs and Green River will increase.

The Rock Springs Rocket-Miner reports (http://bit.ly/1lCunJM ) that area taxpayers could end up paying four times as much to receive 25 percent less in services than what are now offered.
