Prosecutor: 18-year-old man, teenage boy charged with murder in Newark slaying

NEWARK, New Jersey — Murder charges have been filed against a Newark man and a teenage boy accused in the fatal shooting of a city man last month.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray announced the charges against 18-year-old Kaseem Callender and the 17-year-old on Monday. They said both suspects had been arrested on Thursday.

The two are charged in the death of Raheem Hughee, a 33-year-old East Orange resident who was shot and killed Junbe 28 in the area of 41-45 Mountain View Avenue in Newark.

Callender remained jailed Monday on $500,000 bail, and it was not known if has retained an attorney. He's scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Tuesday morning.

The juvenile suspect's name was not released, due to his age.
