5-year-old and 7-year-old sisters found dead after Sumter County home burns down

PINEWOOD, South Carolina — Authorities say two young sisters have died in a house fire in Sumter County.

Firefighters told media outlets the girls were found dead on the floor of a bedroom inside their Pinewood home after the blaze was put out around 11:45 p.m. Monday.

Sumter County Coroner Harvey Bullock told media outlets that 7-year-old Treveah Myers and 5-year-old Isaya Cook both died from smoke inhalation.

Authorities say two adults inside the home were able to escape, but the blaze was too intense to save the children.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
