DOVER, Delaware — Marvin King-Davis scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Cazmon Hayes and Chivarsky Corbett each added 12 points as Delaware knocked off in-state rival Delaware State, 62-56 in the season-opener for both schools Friday night.
The Hornets had won two of the last three meetings between the schools, including wire-to-wire, 65-53 win at Delaware last year, but the victory pushes the Blue Hens record in the series to 12-4.
Delaware State took a 37-31 advantage into intermission, but Delaware held the Hornets to just 19 points in the second half.
The Blue Hens held a 44-29 advantage on the boards and a bigger advantage from the free throw line, where they were 16 of 23 and the Hornets missed both of their attempts.
Devin Morgan was the lone Delaware State shooter to reach double figure scoring with 10 points.
