BALTIMORE — A jail supervisor and national guardsman has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for his role in a widespread contraband smuggling conspiracy in a Baltimore jail.
Derrick Jones was sentenced Friday in federal court in Baltimore.
Jones, a former corrections officer at the Baltimore City Detention Center, was brought back from a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the Maryland National Guard to face charges that he smuggled cellphones and drugs into the jail for inmates who are members of the Black Guerilla Family gang.
Jones pleaded guilty to the charges in August.
