WALLA WALLA, Washington — The civil commitment trial of a 34-year-old man in Walla Walla ended when he agreed he meets the definition of a sex predator and should be confined indefinitely.
The trial of Maverick Lanning began Monday in superior court. On Tuesday, The Union-Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/1qBOuFS ), Lanning told the judge he decided he needs more treatment before he's released from the Special Commitment Center.
Lanning has been held at the center on McNeil Island since completing a prison sentence for child sex crimes. The state attorney general's office sought to make his commitment indefinite.
The commitment order signed by the judge says Lanning suffers from several mental abnormalities and disorders, including pedophilia, that make him likely to engage in predatory acts of sexual violence.
